Rohit Sharma ought to start at number six in the third test, according to Cheteshwar Pujara.

Cheteshwar Pujara has suggested that Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, bat in the middle order, specifically at number six, ahead of the third Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

This guidance is given as India gets ready for the crucial Test match against Australia, which gets underway in Brisbane on December 14. Speaking on ESPN Cricket Info, Pujara explained that given the team’s future, it could be better for Indian cricket if Rohit gave up his position as an opener.

Even though Rohit is an excellent player, he has been having trouble in the series thus far, particularly during the pink ball Test at Adelaide, where he only scored nine runs in two attempts.

Australia’s bowlers caused Rohit problems, particularly on his off and middle stumps, and he was removed by Pat Cummins of Australia and Scott Collins.

To perform better in Australia, Rohit needs to improve his mechanics, particularly his footwork, Pujara noted. “A slightly bigger stride could help him,” he added, adding that Rohit would be able to handle the stump line threat, which has been a problem for him lately.

Rohit needs to improve in the nets since he has been getting out to balls that are bowled or LBW on the wicket line, according to Pujara. Regarding the future, Pujara underlined how crucial it is for the Indian team to have a view of the future.

He suggested that Rohit switch to No. 6 because Shubman Gill is probably going to bat at No. 3 and players like KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal both did well in the first Test. This would position India for the future by allowing up-and-coming talent to fill the vacancies.

Pujara also admitted that Rahul and Jaiswal’s combined 200 runs in the first Test helped India win by a comfortable 295 runs in Perth. But because of poor batting, India suffered a crushing defeat to Australia by 10 wickets in the second Test.

All eyes will be on India’s squad selection and whether Rohit Sharma follows Pujara’s advise to bat in the middle order as the third Test is scheduled to be played at Brisbane’s famous Gabba.

India will be looking to recover from the crushing loss in the second Test when the match starts at 5:50 AM IST on December 14.
